Tio Light Switch teaches kids about energy conservation

November 16th, 2009 admin

Kids are notorious for leaving lights on.  They don’t have the burden of knowing how high that energy bill really is when they constantly leave the lights on within rooms they aren’t using.  This light switch was probably created to save the earth, but it might be nice to have purely to save your sanity.  With this visual reminder of how much energy is being used, it might help you keep your energy bill down. This Tio Ghost wall-mounted light switch system is a design by Tim Holley.  It’s actually developed with kids in mind to teach them about conserving energy.  When the light switch has only been on for less than an hour, it glows green.  Then after four it goes to yellow and after eight it turns to an angry red.  Sadly it is still just a design, so you’ll have to find some other way to motivate the kids to turn out the lights

Any toy that teaches kids about alternative energy in a way that makes it fun for them is definitely okay in my book.  I’ve seen some that are kits and a bit more complicated.  Honestly, I think that this car is one of the best approaches I’ve seen.  It goes for the subtle angle, it’s a fun remote control car and doesn’t...

Basalte comes out with the fancy Mona Light Switch
Light switches have had the same boring design for many years.  The only way it can be changed up is typically to add a decorative light switch cover and usually those look incredibly cheesy.  Which means it’s best to just attempt to make the switch blend in with its surroundings.  Well now you have another option and yes, it is actually...

To get the energy out of your kids, use the sOccket Ball
Does anyone think that it is strange that we live in a world where we must conserve all the energy we can, but children have energy to spare? Fortunately, the sOccket Ball has figured out a way to harness the power of children’s play. That’s right, the sOccket ball. Don’t ask me why this product name is so odd, with its usage...

Westek HomeFinder Flashing Screw-In Light Control
Helping people find your home is sometimes a bit obnoxious.  I’ve always had to give a very exact description, because I live in an apartment within a house and I don’t have an apartment number on my door.  Which has always made me worry about what’d happen if emergency officials needed to find my door.  This little screw...

Gyroscopic Training Wheel teaches kids to ride their bike
When a kid has training wheels for longer than their friends, they always get teased a bit.  Well with this new Gyrowheel, it wouldn’t be quite so noticeable that the child is getting a little help.  Instead of them needing an adult to attempt to gradually let them go, they could learn to ride more confidently on their own with the use...
Hangman Light for those tired of it all
Hangman Light for those tired of it all
If you have no problem with slightly morbid designs, this light would work great for your home.  It looks about like a doll has decided to finally end their poor tortured life.  Only to be turned into a lamp to illuminate your home with their dark deed.  It’s not morbid in the least.  Hopefully your friends and family share your open...

Concert Hands teaches you to play piano
Factory workers have often worried that some latest technology will come in and do their job for them leaving them to look for a new job.  It’s a justifiable fear, however, somehow I don’t think piano teachers ever thought they’d see the day when they’d be replaced by a machine.  Now they could be though, for a much higher...

The eco-friendly Solar Light Up Skull
Instead of getting a skull that lights up and requires you to plug it in or toss in batteries, go for this slightly more convenient design.  It features a built-in solar panel to make it so that you can sit this out during the Halloween season and not need to worry about it till Halloween has passed.  Since it will be all over with as of Saturday,...
