Plex.app has been a fantastic media center option for Macs for a few years and as of last week, also on iOS devices . Interestingly, Plex today announced a huge deal with LG which will have the Plex software built into future  LG HDTV displays, free of charge (except LG obviously has to cover the cost of additional hardware).  At some point in the future, Plex will be ported to Windows (how about that!) as well. That is an interesting option...

Apple’s iOS has become the third most popular platform on the Internet with marketshare that’s nealry six times larger than Android. Indeed, iOS is bigger than Linux, says Net Applications . Collectively the devices that run iOS — the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad — accounted for 1.1 per cent of all hardware on the Internet last month. Windows and Mac OS were the first and second place OS’ used on the net, with 91.3...

If you’re like Jobs you’d say “who wants a stylus?” If you’re not Apple’s CEO, then you may want to check out Just Mobile’s Alupen. It’s crafted from premium, long-lasting alu-min-ium (Ive style) and looks awesome. It’s as tall as your iPhone, and slightly thicker than ye olde’ number 2 pencil. The stylus works great as a… stylus (didya guess?) and if you were thinking about getting...

I know, I know. Flash on mobile devices isn’t what it is on desktops, which frankly isn’t that great either (as I try to write this on a Macbook Pro with memory and processor all but consumed by a Hulu video). That being said, the Skyfire browser, which was submitted to the app store today , teases us with the ability to watch shows like the Daily Show and …  Read More →

It is late in the UK, I’ve put stuff together here and here . There’s a few facts which might be of interest to some readers, so I thought I’d take a moment to put them down. The Apple TV runs an A4 processor OK, as I expected international audiences lucked out on the Apple TV. We have no on device purchases (so no random podcasts, either), and without access to $0.99 show rentals the product loses a lot of its pitch for international...

If you thought Epic’s Citadel game was mindblowing ‘on a phone!’ during today’s event presentation, we have some good news for you. It is now available as a trial download for free. See what your iPhone/iPod/iPad can do: You can download a demo of the game here. It looks insane on the iPad too (below)  Read More →

Folks, this is one for the books. Apple has announced they will be live streaming tomorrow’s music related event. This is the first time in recent (thanks, commenters) keynote history that a live stream will be offered. This gives us the sense that something HUGE is going down tomorrow and Apple wants to make sure it’s all seen. Maybe they have to show off something indescribable with live blog pictures? Who knows? You can catch...

Apple’s 2010 Music event is upon us and we’re anticipating some new iPod gear and perhaps some new software from Apple.  Here’s a consensus from around here and what we’ve been hearing : New iPod Touch with cameras and Retina Display .  This seems to be the most obvious and reliable rumor and also makes sense since Steve Jobs said to expect Facetime on additional devices later this year.   Will we see 128GB?  That...

Hard Candy broke their iPod touch 4 cases loose, and they seem to follow what we’ve heard so far. There’s that camera on the top-left corner as well as a spot for a microphone, not an LED flash, on the back.  Also check out that funky diagonal on the 30-pin docking bay. Hard Candy says they are already in full production and should have them ready for launch (below).  Thank you Mr. Devine? HARD CANDY CASES DEBUTS THE FIRST LINE...

Computerworld : Time for a change of pace while we all reflect on Apple’s introduction of a US-only 6-month trial of 99-cent TV show rentals from Disney and ABC alongside new model iPod touch and glimmerings at the Apple TV tomorrow. Here, just for my many Apple-hating readers, taken from the annals of Apple’s great history are six products or events some say the company should never have been part of. Read More  Read More →

We love the smell of freshly fried rumor in the morning — particularly the day before an Apple special event. This morning’s rumor takes us back, right back to last week’s claims of Apple’s plans for streaming video services, hinted at by a question held inside an iTunes customer survey. Now we already know what to expect tomorrow: iPod touch update Apple TV update potentially MacBook air update (as briefly rumored) iTunes...

That September 1st surprise from Plex is a new iOS app that allows iPod touch, iPhone and iPad to be both media devices as well as remotes for the TV.  CrunchGear got a hands on look before launch.  For those who use a Mac as their mediacenter, this news may be as exciting as a $99 iTV. Plex , if you aren’t aware, is a mediacenter built off of the original XBox MediaCenter  Open Source code.  Read More →

iLounge speculate s that a 2.8-inch iPod touch with the same resolution as current iPod touch devices would be a smart play for Apple at this week’s event.  They mention that the current Shuffle’s screen is only marginally smaller (2.4 vs. 2.8 inches) and it uses the same class of Processor (albeit with less RAM). I like the idea for a few reasons: It would bridge the gap left between the Shuffle-sized Nano (which gets smaller)...

We are just days away from the possible unveiling of Apple’s radically new AppleTV, rumored to be re-named as its former codename, iTV . Since this device is speculated to be running Apple’s iOS , there are countless rumors and debates as to how the planet’s folks will control the thing. Apple’s current remote definitely won’t do the job with its 5 physics buttons. There’s the Magic Trackpad but that might...
